BELOW GROUND is a collaborative interdisciplinary project bringing people together to explore ideas of the subterranean. Artists across disciplines meet geographers and urban gardeners and create multimedia, multisensory performances and workshops interacting with the community.
Funded by an Arts Council England National Lottery project grant in 2023, we are now preparing the next iterations of BELOW GROUND. Please make contact with me if you would like to host a collaboration/residency/performance.
Here is a filmed performance of our April collaboration:
Artists in 2022-23: Jackie Haynes, Zoe Katsilerou, Toreh OβGarro, Gavin Osborn (Trio Atem), Lee Patterson, Alice Purton (Trio Atem), Nina Whiteman (Trio Atem), David Birchall, Tim Forshaw
Subterranean specialists in 2022-23: Professor Harriet Hawkins (geographer), Stuart Spray (ecologist and bat expert), Geraldine Wall (horticulturalist), Josephine Payne (community gardener)
Generously supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
I am also grateful for funding from the Engaged Humanities Lab at Royal Holloway, University of London.
